Champions League draw: Result of the quarter-finals draw & more
Down to the last 8…
The first round of the Champions League knockout stage is complete, taking out half the teams and leaving eight to battle it out in the quarter-finals.
The smaller sides have been weeded out and we’re now left with the heavyweights, which has made for some final-worthy matchups in the next round.
Find out the Champions League draw information here, including a rundown of the last round, the teams left, the fixtures for the next round and the dates for the remaining rounds.
Champions League Round of 16 review
The Round of 16 provided little surprises but certainly came with some thrills.
Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich all made light work of their opponents, although the German side did have a little scare by losing in the first leg.
Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona took advantage of being at home for the second leg, both taking a draw in the first and then convincingly beating their opponents (PSV and Napoli respectively) at the second time of asking.
Real Madrid left things nervy for themselves, taking just a 1-0 lead from the first leg and drawing the second to squeeze by RB Leipzig 2-1.
Two matchups headed all the way to penalties though, one in London and one in Madrid.
Arsenal found the goal they needed early into the second half but needed a very solid performance during the penalty shootout to secure the win.
As for Atletico Madrid, they left it late to get the second goal they needed against Inter to level the game. A cautious extra-time period led to penalties, where the home side managed to hold their nerve to claim the win.

- Real Madrid (Spain)

- Atletico Madrid (Spain)
- Bayern Munich (Germany)
- Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
- Paris Saint-Germain (France)
Champions League draw: Result
As mentioned earlier, some final-level matchups are coming in the next round, which is exactly the reason that makes the Champions League the best club competition in the world.
Here are the full matchups for the next round, with the order listed being how they will be played in the first leg.
Manchester City | VS | Real Madrid |
Borussia Dortmund | VS | Atletico Madrid |
Barcelona | VS | PSG |
Bayern Munich | VS | Arsenal |
Man City and Real Madrid are meeting once again. They met last year in the semi-finals, with the eventual champions dismantling the all-time winningest team in the competition 5-1 on aggregate. This year will likely tell a different tale, so that is our pick of the round.
Barcelona vs PSG have shared something of a storied rivalry over the last 10 years, with some iconic matches including Barca’s remarkable 6-5 aggregate comeback victory in the 2016/17 Round of 16. It will certainly be interesting to see these two meet once again.
Arsenal’s first venture back in the Champions League since the 2016/17 campaign has been strong so far but they will be tested in the next round as they will face the formidable opposition of the German giants Bayern, along with a man who knows the Gunners very well, Harry Kane.
Dortmund and Atletico on paper look like a very even matchup so it will certainly be interesting to see who comes out on top there.
Champions League draw: Venue and time
