Story of the 2025/26 Champions League
The sophomore season of the newly revamped Group Stage format proved a success once again, with the highlight being Benfica’s stunning victory over Real Madrid in the final match, with a goal from their keeper of all players securing their place in the knockout round playoffs.
Bodo/Glimt were a feel-good surprising package, beating last year’s finalists Inter Milan on their way to a Round of 16 appearance.
Bayern and PSG were keeping neutral fans entertained in their matchups thanks to their free-scoring natures. This ended with them meeting in the semi-finals and an all-time memorable first-leg nine-golf thriller.
Who is playing in the 2026 Champions League final?
This year’s final will be contested between Arsenal and defending champions PSG.
The pair met three times during the 2024/25 campaign, first during matchday two of the Group Stage where Arsenal claimed a 2-0 victory, then again during the semi-finals when PSG beat them in both legs on the way to winning their first Champions League title.
The two’s paths to Budapest have seen them take very different approaches.
PSG is the highest scoring team in this year's tournament with 44 goals. What’s made their run so impressive is the fact they failed to qualify automatically for the knockout rounds, having to go through the playoffs.
This seemed to light a fire in them, as every round has seen four or more goals scored from the Parisian side.
On the opposite side, Arsenal has taken a more defensive approach in their games. They clear the field on clean sheets with nine in total - second best being their North London rivals Tottenham with six.
They’ve won by a mere one or two goals in each of their knockout games to make the final, but if it works then who are we to bash them.
When is the 2026 Champions League final?
The Champions League Final will be played on Saturday 30th May, with kickoff slated for 5pm.
This marks a change from the normal kickoff time of roughly 8pm as UEFA aims to deliver the game to a wider and younger audience by starting the final earlier.
Where is the 2026 Champions League final?
The 2025 Champions League Final will take place at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
The stadium is the home of the Hungarian national team and has previously hosted the 2023 Europa League final.
