Read on to discover all about Virgin Media's On Demand service
What is Virgin Media On Demand?
Virgin Media On Demand is Virgin's very own video on-demand service which allows you to stream an absolutely huge variety of catch-up TV, both new and classic movies and brilliant box sets over your internet connection.
Unfortunately, what type of content you've got access to will depend on which kind of Virgin Media TV package you've got and whether or not you've bought the required extras.
How do I watch Virgin Media On Demand?
There's a few different types of Virgin Media set top boxes currently available, from the budget V box to the super-charged 4K enabled V6 box, but they can all be connected up to the internet in pretty much the same way.
Although Virgin Media recommends that you should try to use an ethernet cable if possible, they also state that your wi-fi should definitely be more than capable of working just as well.
The direct connection of the ethernet cable will generally provide a quicker and more stable service, but as you only really need a download speed of around 10Mbps in order to enjoy Virgin Media On Demand it's not as big of an issue as it could've been.
Don't forget to call up and activate your Virgin On Demand service before you start setting it up otherwise you could experience some delay with recieving live content later on.
If you do decide to opt for the ethernet cable, you'll need to physically run it across the room all the way from your set top box to the back of your router. With wi-fi, you'll need to select the “other option” line that will appear on-screen when your Virgin box can't pick up the ethernet cable and then pick your network name from the list displayed.
Alternatively, you can search for it manually by selecting the “enter network name” option.
What can I watch on Virgin Media On Demand?
What kind of content you'll be able to find on Virgin On Demand really does depend on which TV bundle you've purchased.
With Virgin Media, you can either get the Mix, Fun or Full House TV package on its own or in a bundle along with broadband and a phone line.
Three catch-up players, BBC iPlayer, All 4 and ITV Player, are included in every TV package as is complete access to Virgin Media's extensive on-demand library. The Full House package however, is the only one that also allows you to enjoy a huge variety of brilliant box sets.
Virgin Media On Demand allows you to catch-up on a massive selection of excellent shows from the last seven days across all kind of premium channels like Fox and Universal. Unfortunately, although some Sky channels like Sky One and Sky Living are available both live and on-demand, Sky Atlantic (home of critically acclaimed shows like Game of Thrones) isn't.
New box sets are added quite frequently, so there alway definetly going to be something available for a relaxing TV binge.
If you pay the extra fee for Sky Cinema, you'll be able to enjoy over 500 films on-demand and you can also purchase films from Virgin's very own service known simply as Virgin Movies. Both offer a great selection across all different kinds of genres but Virgin Movies tends to have a bigger collection of newer releases.
Netflix is available as an app which can be downloaded via the TiVo app store and can be used freely as long as you've signed up for an account. The Amazon Prime Video app unfortunatly isn't available on the TiVo app store.
