What is Sky Protect?
Sky Protect is a smart home insurance product that combines smart home technology with traditional home insurance to offer customers a more comprehensive and proactive approach to protecting your home.
Their home insurance is rated 5 stars by Defaqto and is underwritten by Zurich, a world-leading insurer, so you know you can trust what they’re offering. You can choose to have it cover just contents or buildings and contents.
It also includes as standard:
- Cyber assistance cover
- Home emergency cover
- Legal assistance
Device insurance is also offered which covers your Sky equipment as well as various other devices. This is a separate insurance offering.
What do you get with Sky Protect?
On top of the great home insurance and other standard cover and assistance, Sky Protect customers receive a smart home kit worth £250. The kit includes:
- Video doorbell – See who’s at your door and even speak to them via the app on your phone.
- Indoor camera – Keep an eye out around the house at any time.
- Leak detectors – Monitors for any potential hidden leaks and unwanted water.
- Motion and contact sensors – Monitors the house for any unwanted visitors or anything that moves or opens out of place.
Everything is monitored by the Sky Protect app, so you can get notifications from any of the devices straight to your phone.
Installing the devices is easy to do yourself. Simply put them up where you want/need them, download the app, and then follow the in-app instructions to get them set up and running (a broadband connection is needed for them to work).
As mentioned, along with the smart home kit, you will get three services as standard: home emergency cover, family legal assistance and cyber assistance cover.
Home emergency cover
If you have a home emergency, you can get it fixed with trusted tradespeople who are available 24/7 and covered up to £1000 for temporary fixes and/or repairs.
Family legal assistance
You can get legal costs of up to £50,000 a year covered if a solicitor is appointed for personal legal advice whenever you need it.
Cyber assistance cover
Get cover and support in the event of a cyber attack on your personal devices up to the value of £25,000.
What other features appear on the Sky Protect app?
As well as being able to check in on either the doorbell or indoor camera and get notifications from the sensors, you can also view your insurance policy, get support, and start a claim.
Video clips from the cameras are stored on the cloud for 30 days and can be viewed within the app.
You can also decide what automated notifications you get and can set it up to send emergency alerts to a selected emergency contact without you having to do anything.
