Cowboy Bebop cancelled by Netflix after one season

Its due to a combination of poor critical reviews and declining viewership.

Netflix has cancelled its live-action adaptation of the anime Cowboy Bebop after one season. 

This decision comes less than a month after all ten episodes premiered on 19th November but it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise.

Cowboy Bebop received mixed to negative reviews from critics, standing at a disappointing 46% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, who described it as “soulless” and “unnecessary.”

There’s also the fact that although it’s viewership started strong, having attracted 74 million views in the first week, it declined rapidly after that. 

The show follows Spike (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda), a rag-tag group of bounty hunters aboard the titular spaceship as they hunt down criminals across the galaxy. 

This adaptation was highly-anticipated by fans given the acclaimed status of the original anime which is widely considered to be one of the best the genre has to offer. 

Developed by Christopher Yost, the show was directed by Alex Garcia Lopez and Michael Katleman and written by a team including Yost, Sean Cummings, Vivian Lee and Liz Sagal.

Despite the failure of Cowboy Bebop, the streaming still has several other live-action anime adaptations in the works including One Piece, YuYu Hakusho and Gundam.
