Gossip Girl reboot renewed for season 2
The show was a big hit in the US with it becoming HBO Max's most-watched original series over the first weekend of release.
HBO has renewed it’s reboot of mid-2000s teen drama Gossip Girl for a second season.
Created as an original for the network’s US-only streaming service HBO Max, it reportedly scored record viewing numbers during the first four days of its release in July 2021.
Again based on the YA book series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar, the show is set within the same world as the original but does not function as a direct sequel.
It follows a new generation of ultra-wealthy teenagers at a top Manhattan private school 9 years after the original Gossip Girl site went dark.
The main ensemble cast consists of Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith.
The Good Place’s Kristen Bell has also reprised her role as the show’s omniscient narrator who serves as the voice of the anonymous blogger.
Gossip Girl was created by Josh Safran who also acts as showrunner and one of its writers. Directors so far have included Karena Evans, Jennifer Lynch and Pamela Romanowsky.
The first six episodes of Gossip Girl are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer
