Mahershala Ali to replace Denzel Washington in new Netflix film
It's not known why the double Academy-Award winner exited the project.
Moonlight’s Mahershala Ali is to replace Denzel Washington in Netflix’s upcoming thriller Leave The World Behind.
Based on author Rumaan Alam’s novel of the same name, the film follows middle class white couple Clay and Amanda as they head off to a rental property on a weekend break.
The home’s owners, wealthy black couple Ruth and G.H, return during a sudden power outage with strange news from New York City, the phone lines are down, the internet is offline and no TV channels are available.
As they anxiously await news, the two couples are reluctantly forced into this tense living situation which forces them to examine their own relationships and racial prejudices.
Julia Roberts is still set to star opposite Ali as the film’s female lead but other cast members have yet to be announced.
Leave The World Behind will be written and directed by Sam Esmail who’s best known for creating the popular hacker drama Mr Robot starring Rami Malek.
It’s not yet known when the film will enter production or when it will become available to stream on Netflix.
