Netflix unveils first trailer for The Witcher season 2
Eight new episodes of the popular fantasy drama will arrive on 17th December.
Netflix has released the first trailer for the highly-anticipated second season of The Witcher.
The clip premiered last Friday as part of the streaming giant and CD Projekt Red’s (the studio behind the hugely popular series of Witcher video games) first-ever WitcherCon which took place virtually from 9th to 10th July.
Loosely based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Blood of Elves, it doesn’t reveal too much about the season’s overall plot but does suggest that Ciri’s (Freya Allen) witcher training will form a major part of it.
We see her and Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) arrive at the ancient Kaer Morhen where the latter lives and trains with his fellow monster hunters including mentor Vesemir (Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia).
Right at the end of the clip, it’s also revealed that powerful sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) survived the Battle of Sodden Hill last season.
As previous promotional images have shown her imprisoned and in chains, this clearly isn’t the end of her dealings with the invading Nilfgaardians.
Also set to return is Joey Batey as bard Jaskier, Anna Shaffer as fellow sorceress Triss Merigold and MyAnna Burning as Tissaia, Yennefer’s mentor and head of magical academy Aretuza.
New to the cast includes Yasen Atour, Paul Bullion, Cassie Claire, Graham McTavish, Kristofer Hivju, Adjoa Andoh, Chris Fulton and Aisha Fabienne Ross.
WitcherCon also saw Netflix confirm the release date for this new batch of episodes as Friday 17th December.
If you can’t wait until then for more of The Witcher universe, the prequel anime film Nightmare of the Wolf which follows a younger Vesemir will premiere on Netflix on 23rd August.
You can stream the first season of The Witcher on Netflix now.
