Pilot ordered for new Let the Right One In TV series
The previous attempt to adapt the bestselling novel never came to fruition.
A TV series inspired by Swedish horror novel Let the Right One In has been ordered to pilot by US network Showtime.
While John Ajvide Lindqvist’s acclaimed source material focused on the friendship between lonely 12-year-old Oskar and centuries old vampire Eli, this new show will take quite a different approach.
Demián Bichir, whose previous credits include Showtime’s hit series Weeds, is set to star as a father caring for his young vampire daughter.
“The series centres on a father and his 12-year-old daughter whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire,” reads its official plot synopsis.
“Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while Mark does his best to provide her with the minimal amount of human blood she needs to stay alive.”
The pilot will be directed by Homeland’s Seith Mann with Penny Dreadful's Andrew Hinderaker set to serve as showrunner.
Lindqvist’s bestseller was previously adapted into a critically-acclaimed Swedish language film of the same name in 2008. An American remake starring Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz arrived two years later which also received excellent reviews.
“Let the Right One In quickly establishes itself as a thrilling, high-stakes drama that asks the question: How far would you go to save your child from the monsters out there - would you risk becoming a monster yourself?” said Amy Israel, Showtime’s Executive Vice President of Scripted Programming.
