Weekend news roundup 16/10: England’s ups and downs
One team does well, another does poorly. We can never have it all good…
Triumph at the Rugby World Cup for England
England have put themselves into the Rugby World Cup Semi-finals after beating Fiji 30-24 in a hard-fought contest.
Owen Farrell silenced his critics by scoring 20 of his side's 30 points, putting in one of his best games in an England shirt of his career.
England is now the only home nation left in the tournament after France narrowly lost to South Africa in an absolute stormer of a match.
England will face South Africa in the Semi-finals this Saturday, while the other Semi-final game on Friday will be New Zealand vs Argentina.
Rick and Morty voice actors named
Adult Swim has finally announced the voice actors behind the iconic characters of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith for Rick and Morty.
After Justin Roiland departed the show earlier this year, Adult Swim kept their cards close to their chest about who would be replacing him, as Roiland was the voice behind both characters.
Finally, the names have been revealed in the credits of the Season 7 premiere, with Ian Cardoni as the new voice of Rick and Harry Belden as Morty.
Upset for England in the Cricket World Cup
While the rugby team were on their way to victory, England’s cricket team put in a disappointing shift in the Cricket World Cup.
Playing their third tournament game, England lost to winless Afghanistan, who quite simply outplayed the defending champions.
Four players were bowled out and three failed to even hit double digits in what was a surprising result which should be a wake-up call to the team.
The loss has put a dent in their defence ambitions, but England can get back on track when they face South Africa this Saturday.
Taylor Swift shines at the box office
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has unsurprisingly become a big hit at the box office, breaking the record for the best opening ever for a concert film.
The film made an estimated $96m at the US box office, which depending on how actual ticket sales pan out, may of set a new benchmark for an October film’s debut - 2019s The Joker currently holds that title with $96.2m in its first weekend.
Despite its success, the film still slightly underperformed projections, as AMC projected a $100m opening weekend.
5 sports approved for LA28 Olympics
The IOC (International Olympic Committee) has approved five sports for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Cricket is returning to the Olympic games for the first time since 1900, alongside lacrosse, flag football, squash and softball-baseball - the latter two making their Olympic debuts.
The IOC rules state that each host city can request the inclusion of several sports to their edition of the games.
Cricket was chosen due to its rising popularity, while the others are typical American games, so no surprise to see them included when the games arrive in California in 2028.
Softball-baseball isn't a hybrid of the two, but instead Baseball will be played by men's teams and softball played by women's teams.
