Netflix has officially announced the Peaky Blinders movie and that Academy Award-winner Cillian Murphy will be returning to the lead role of Thomas Shelby.
It has long been known that the sixth season wasn’t to be the end for the Shelby family as we have known them from the series that first aired back in 2013.
Series writer and creator Steven Knight first spoke of a feature-length film to come in place of a seventh season after the year-long production hiatus in 2020.
Details on what to expect from the movie are scarce as of yet, but what we do know is that filming is set to begin later this year and that Oppenheimer star and head of the Shelby family in the show Cillian Murphy is set to return, which likely means the rest of the family (who is still alive in the series) will appear in it too.
Sergio Perez signs two-year Red Bull extension
Sergio Perez has secured his future in Formula 1 and shut down all rumours of his departure from the reigning World Champions by signing a new two-year extension to stay with Red Bull.
Rumours of the Milton Keynes-based team getting rid of the Mexican had been circulating for over a year now, and at times Perez did not help the conversation by not performing to the standards set by the six-time Constructors Champions.
But even after a poor result during the last race in Monaco and with the high-value Carlos Sainz being booted out of Ferrari at the end of the current season in favour of the incoming Lewis Hamilton, Red Bull decided to keep their driving pairings for at least two more years.
While Perez’s results can be best described as erratic at times, he managed to help Red Bull secure the Constructors’ Championship for the second consecutive season last year by finishing second, giving the team their first-ever Constructors’’ Championship 1-2 finish.
Captain America: A Brave New World adds Giancarlo Esposito
Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito is said to be introduced to the MCU as he will be joining the cast of Captain America: A Brave New World, with murmuring from The Hollywood Reporter stating that he will be playing a villain in the film.
THR reported that the next Captain America instalment is currently undergoing reshoots to help bring in Esposito’s character.
What his role exactly will be is still a mystery, with the sources only teasing that he will be playing a villain. With that said, though, Esposito is known for his more sinister characters, having played antagonist Gus Fring in Breaking Bad as well as bad guy Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian.
Fans are understandably excited at this news, with Esposito widely praised for every performance he turns in. With the MCU being in the worst place it has been after a long period of success, many are hoping that his role won’t be limited to the one movie and that he can return as a major villain again in other projects.
Maddison and Jones left out of England squad for Euros
BREAKING: James Maddison has been left out of England's 26-player squad for Euro 2024 and has departed the Three Lions camp 🚨
— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) June 5, 2024
Tottenham star James Maddison and Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones are reportedly the first absentees of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the Euros this summer.
Both players had been included in the England manager's 33-man preliminary squad that is currently training together and playing warm-up friendlies to get the players ready and to help Southgate decide.
Maddison had featured in the first friendly on Monday against Bonsina and Herzegovina, coming off the bench in their 3-0 win. But with the news that he won’t be making the squad for the tournament, he has left the camp ahead of the second friendly against Iceland, where he was expected to start.
Jones will have seen his place as a longshot, but for Maddison, it is yet again heartbreak and disappointment as he is yet to feature for England in a major tournament. While he had a strong start to the season, his form did dip in the back end of the year which may have contributed to Southgate opting against bringing him.
