Sky Ultimate TV overhaul explained: A world-first entertainment offering
An exciting rework, creating a revolutionary viewing experience.
Sky has rework for its Ultimate TV package coming, turning it into a fully bundled streaming and live TV hub that combines Sky channels with Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max and Hayu - all under one subscription.
The update marks one of the most significant changes to Sky’s core TV product in recent years. Instead of treating streaming apps as add-ons, Sky Ultimate TV now builds them directly into the package, aiming to reduce subscription overload and centralise viewing in one place.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s changed, what’s included, how TNT Sports fits in - and how much Sky Ultimate TV now costs.
What is Sky Ultimate TV now?
As it is now, Sky Ultimate TV is the expanded base offering required for Sky TV, one step better than Sky Essential TV.
What you get with Ultimate TV now is 150+ channels in HD, including; standard Freeview channels such as BBC, ITV and the likes; Sky channels such as Sky Atlantic and Sky One; and some extra channels such as Comedy Central and National Geographic.
You also get Netflix Standard with Ads and Discovery+ Entertainment subscriptions for access to even more content that is made available through your Sky Stream puck, Sky Glass TV or Sky Q box.
What do you get with the new Sky Ultimate TV package?
The above is how Sky Ultimate TV looks now, but soon the revamped package will begin coming into place, with all the new streaming platforms included, all in one place.
Live Sky channels remain the foundation
Sky’s traditional TV experience hasn’t disappeared. Ultimate TV still includes more than 130 live channels, covering entertainment, drama, documentaries and US imports.
Sky Atlantic and Sky One continue to anchor the schedule, alongside Sky Originals and box sets available on demand. For viewers who still value live TV alongside streaming, this remains a key differentiator compared to pure streaming services.
Netflix included as part of the bundle
Netflix remains embedded within Sky Ultimate TV, meaning customers can browse and search Netflix titles directly through Sky’s platform.
Instead of running Netflix separately, it appears alongside live TV listings and other on-demand content. For households already paying for Netflix, this can simplify billing and reduce the number of standalone subscriptions.
Disney+ joins the line-up
Disney+ will now be part of the Ultimate TV structure, adding blockbuster franchises and family content to the mix.
Subscribers get access to Disney’s content, which includes major films and series from Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar, plus Disney’s back catalogue - significantly widening the range of available programming within the Sky interface.
The inclusion of Disney+ strengthens Sky’s appeal to families and franchise fans without requiring an additional subscription.
HBO Max launches in the UK - and inside Sky
A major element of the overhaul is the arrival of HBO Max in the UK, with the streaming service integrated into Sky Ultimate TV.
HBO Max brings with it Warner Bros. films and premium HBO dramas, including major titles such as House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Its inclusion gives Sky customers direct access to HBO’s catalogue at launch.
Reality TV provided by Hayu
Finally included in the overhaul will be Hayu, the best place to find all your favourite reality TV shows - Below Deck, The Real Housewives and The Only Way is Essex, to name a few.
All together, the newly revamped Sky Ultimate TV bundle is designed with everyone in mind, with something that’s sure to provide for whoever, whenever.
TNT Sports moving to HBO Max: what’s changing?
Another major change that should be noted as part of HBO Max’s release in the UK is that TNT Sports will be transitioning over from Discovery+.
What this means for Sky customers who have TNT Sports added on is if you want to watch via a streaming device, like on your phone, laptop, tablet or even console, you’ll now be heading over to HBO Max rather than Discovery+.
The live TV channels will remain as and where they are, so no change.
Access may require activation via the HBO Max app or online, although this should be as simple as signing in to your account which you should do as soon as possible once it is released in the Ultimate TV package (more on that a little further down).
The practical takeaway is straightforward: TNT Sports is not being removed - it’s being delivered through HBO Max instead.
TNT Sports will not be included as part of the new Sky Ultimate TV overhaul. It will remain an optional extra for you to add on to your Sky TV package should you choose to do so.
How much does Sky Ultimate TV cost?
The newly revamped Sky Ultimate TV will cost £24 a month, a slight increase on before but still a remarkably good price considering the four streaming services included alongside Sky.
It should be noted that the services included are on the base plans, which are typically ad-supported. Hayu is the only service that is entirely ad-free.
Customers will have the option to upgrade their Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max plans to the ad-free tiers for an additional monthly cost.
When is the new package available?
The updated structure rolls out in stages:
- Disney+ joins from March
- HBO Max launches in the UK on 26th March
- Hayu completes integration during the phased rollout (exact date to be confirmed)
Existing Sky Ultimate TV customers are transitioned as services go live, while new customers signing up receive the updated bundle.
The package is available across Sky Stream, Sky Glass and Sky Q, with the rework becoming available from 1st April.
What does this mean for existing Sky customers?
For most current Ultimate TV subscribers, the transition is designed to be smooth.
As each streaming platform becomes available, eligible customers can access it through their Sky device. This may involve linking an account or activating the service, depending on circumstances.
Customers who already pay separately for Netflix or Disney+ may be able to consolidate those payments into their Sky subscription.
Importantly, the overhaul doesn’t replace the existing Sky TV experience - it simply layers streaming services on top of it.
